Lassen Volcanic National Park, CA, USA

Summer
Lassen Peak is one of only two active volcanoes in the lower 48 states. In 1914, it erupted for the first time after a long break. Its violent fit of eruptions ceased in 1917, but Lassen is still considered active. Lassen is the southernmost volcano in the Cascade range.
Winter
  Top of Lassen Peak,
holding Mt Shasta in my hand.
Lassen, too is quite steep,
but the trail switches back
and forth at a gentle slope.
